Sagent Launches Carboplatin Injection

Packaging intended to reduce medication errors

Sagent Pharmaceuticals has launched Carboplatin Injection, an antineoplastic agent, in four preservative-free vial presentations. The product will be manufactured at Sagent’s SCP facility, a 300,000-sq.-ft. FDA- and cGMP-compliant sterile manufacturing facility located in Chengdu, China. The facility was designed initially to support the supply of chronically short oncology products. Carboplatin is the first product that Sagent will supply from this facility.

Carboplatin Injection is indicated for the initial treatment of advanced ovarian carcinoma in established combination with other approved chemotherapeutic agents. Carboplatin Injection is also indicated for the palliative treatment of patients with ovarian carcinoma recurrent after prior chemotherapy, including patients who have been previously treated with cisplatin.

According to IMS, for the 12 months ending September 2013, the U.S. market for Carboplatin Injection was approximately $30 million. As with all products in Sagent’s portfolio, Carboplatin features Sagent’s PreventIV Measures packaging and labeling, designed to help reduce medication errors.
